Strava promo code: 20% off the annual subscription

The code is FRANCO and it takes 20% off the annual plan. The part almost everyone gets wrong isn't the code. It's where they try to enter it.

The mistake almost everyone makes

Strava promo codes cannot be redeemed through the mobile app. If you subscribe in the app, billing is handled by the App Store or Google Play, and neither accepts Strava coupons: there simply is no field to type one into. It has to be done on strava.com in a browser.

How to redeem the code, step by step

  1. Open Strava in a browser. Phone or desktop both work, but it has to be the browser, not the app.
  2. Sign in to your account. If you don't have one, create it first. Promo codes are meant for free accounts subscribing or resubscribing.
  3. Go to the subscription and pick the annual plan. The discount applies to the annual plan, which already works out considerably cheaper per month than paying monthly.
  4. Type FRANCO in the promo code field and check the total drops by 20% before you confirm payment.

If you'd rather skip the first two steps, this link goes straight to the checkout with the code already loaded: strava.com/subscribe/checkout?code=FRANCO. It will ask you to sign in if you haven't already, which is normal.

What you actually save

It depends on your country. Strava has priced regionally for a while now, so the figure at checkout is the one for your region and the 20% comes off that. Check the discounted total on the payment screen before you confirm.

One useful note if you're still deciding: Strava includes a 30-day free trial. The sensible move is to trial it first, see whether you genuinely use the routes, the analysis or the segments, and apply the code when it's time to pay.

Who the code is for

Strava's promo codes are aimed at free accounts: new subscribers and people whose subscription lapsed. They don't apply to mid-cycle renewals of an active paid plan. If yours is currently billed through the App Store or Google Play, you'd need to cancel and resubscribe on the website once the period you already paid for runs out.

Is the subscription worth it?

Discount or no discount, the answer depends on how you train. Strava's free plan includes what produces almost all of the motivational effect: recording activities, following people, and giving and receiving kudos. What the paid plan adds is the analysis and planning layer (downloadable routes, full segment leaderboards, training history, goals and challenges).

We break it down feature by feature in why Strava makes you train more, including the uncomfortable part: when the app stops motivating you and starts making you hide your slow runs.

Strava measures how well you did. The question that decides whether you're still training in March is whether you did it.

Frequently asked questions

What is the Strava promo code?

FRANCO, which takes 20% off the annual subscription. Enter it at checkout on the Strava website.

Why doesn't the code work in the app?

Because in-app billing goes through the App Store or Google Play, and neither accepts Strava promo codes. There's no field to enter one. You have to subscribe from strava.com in a browser.

Does it work on the monthly plan?

No, it's for the annual plan. Which, for what it's worth, already costs considerably less per month than paying month to month.

Can I use it if I'm already a subscriber?

Strava promo codes are intended for free accounts: new subscriptions or people who previously lapsed. They don't apply to renewals of an already active paid plan. If yours is active through the App Store or Google Play, you'd need to cancel and resubscribe on the website once the period you already paid for ends. Always check what the checkout says before cancelling anything.

Are there other ways to pay less?

Yes: the family plan splits the cost between up to four people and works out much cheaper per head, and verified students get their own discount. And there's always the 30-day free trial so you don't pay before you're sure.

Disclosure: FRANCO is a Strava promo code shared by Franco Boassi, who makes sharedhabits. The discount is applied by Strava directly at their checkout and the final price depends on your country. Strava promo codes apply to new or reactivated subscriptions from free accounts, not to renewals of an already active paid plan. Terms and validity can change without notice, so always confirm the discounted total before completing payment. sharedhabits is not affiliated with or endorsed by Strava, Inc.
